Co-Founder, Sigma Technologies
Eric Lyons began his career as a musician, studying jazz composition and performance at New England Conservatory of music, where he pursued piano studies and jazz composition. Following a period of professional performance, he turned to his parallel passion for mathematics and computer science. Eric earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Suffolk University, during which he worked at Fidelity Investments as a software engineer on the derivatives team. He went on to pursue an M.S. in Mathematics at Boston University. After his academic work, Eric focused on the development of pattern recognition algorithms for non-linear environments, conducting extensive research in the field of machine learning and computational mathematics.
Over the past 16 years, he has applied this research to the capital markets, specializing in the design of algorithmic trading systems. Eric is the Co-Founder of Sigma Technologies, a family office and quantitative research firm where he directs the design and application of proprietary technology systems. His work focuses on the application of computational methods to identify meaningful, recurring structures within complex financial datasets to inform trading, risk management, and market analysis. This field represents the evolution of traditional technical analysis, leveraging advanced machine learning and statistical models to uncover predictive relationships beyond human capacity.
